You must go into the Setup and mess with the different audio versions to get it working right. Keep in mind more than one may work so figure out the best one worse case it wont work and you must try another.
I am so happy to have found this game! My seven year old couldn't get enough of it, played four times in a row. Thanks for putting it on here. Emily 1 point. Jeremy 1 point. It's been twenty-plus years since I originally played this as a child so my memory may be fuzzy , but I remember owning two versions both graphically identical, more or less : this version, and then a later CD-ROM edition that would play "folk" music as you traveled around the country.
I'd also say it's probable that this later CD-ROM edition had more crimes to solve, on account of the larger storage capacity. Anyway, this version is basically just as good. My wife and I have been having a ton of fun with it, thanks so much! Buttonsamy 0 point DOS version.
Loved this and love it more now. I never had folk music when traveling but now I kind if want it. Shellyvoo 2 points DOS version. You guys are the best! This was one of my favorite childhood games! Thank you!!! I just downloaded this file, because I loved this game way back when, but the music and voice isn't working only the sounds that used to be handled by the internal speaker work.
Is there something special I need to do to get it working? Just to correct myself, I just downloaded the original, and it was EGA.
The rest of my post is correct however. I forgot to mention that there is an NES port of this game floating around somewhere. I used to own it 20 years ago. Arguably the best non-puzzle educational game out there, it is both informative and fun to play.
Part of what makes it so fun is the humor involved, because it is styled as a parody of the cheesy detective movies of the 's. Any parent playing this with their child will have as much fun as the child does.
There was an educational television show based on it as well. In my opinion, it was more fun than the enhanced version. A lot of people seem to be new to it the last few years when in actual reality 64 bit was done way back in I had an early 64 bit I got at circuit City in the summer of 06 and still played a lot of older software titles that today's 64 bit machines won't even read and automatically spit the CD back out.
My 08 computer will not play a lot of games a computer from would which actually sat on the store shelf for a year so I guess I can say my early 64 bit machine is from when it got to the store. Microsoft is actively making it so CD games do not work on either Windows 10 or 7 with bad updates.
There was an article at a security website that stated to forget about discs on new versions of Windows. Microsoft is also ran by Nokia phone people now and they only know how to program for smart phones which are literally dumbed down PC's at a minimum which always require being online.
